It
was the Summer of 2003.
Thirty miles apart the Highlands Harmony Chorus and
the Mountain Empire Chorus, both members of Sweet
Adelines International, were experiencing low member
attendance and both Chorus Directors were feeling a
bit discouraged. Highlands Harmony Director, Dondra
Warden, said, “Enough is enough! I’m calling Jane!”
(meaning Jane McKamey, the Mountain Empire Chorus
Director)
The time was right; the two choruses wanted to
renew themselves and so, over the next several
months, the plan to unite was put into place. The
two choruses combined talents, met for rehearsals,
held strategy meetings, and attended planning
sessions to handle the process of becoming one.
With eagerness to express new friendship,
enthusiasm, dedication, and determination to
succeed, the new chorus chose a new name, the Hills
Are Alive! Chorus.
Memories of the past, though cherished, began to be
replaced with new memories and goals for the future.
With a renewed interest and eagerness, we officially
became the Hills Are Alive! Chorus in December of
2003, and celebrated at our Charter Party in June
2004.
Our destination has been reached and we are proud
to be the Hills Are Alive! Chorus of Sweet Adelines
International. |
